A new seasonal song, for this moment in American politics!
99 Bottles of… What?!
Americans of a certain vintage are acquainted with the tedious children’s song, “99
Bottles of Beer on the Wall”. [1] We have a somewhat more
immediately applicable variant upon that theme for this portion of the political calendar,
while we are all looking forward to the Big Trump Whump:
99 days to the primary,
99 days remain.
Mark one down, canvass your town,
98 days to the primary!
As you can see from the photo, the Weekend Publisher and the Assistant Weekend Publisher are keeping vigilance about the election (and ejection of Trumpists). The Assistant Weekend Publisher think’s it’s in the bag. His older, more cynical boss is suspicious that sustained hard work is what is required.
Listen to the older cat. He’s right.
The Weekend Conclusion
C’mon, you know you want to sing it along with me.
Sustained singing of a tedious song goes along with sustained political work to register people and get them to the polls. You can stop singing in November.
(Ceterum censeo, Trump incarceranda est!)
(Et ceterum censeo, index Epsteiniani divulganda est!)
Notes & References
1: Rather fewer know the mathematician’s nightmare variant, “$\aleph_0$ Bottles of Beer on the Wall”. At least, none who have returned and reported upon completion of the song. ↩
